Boost Your Business With SEO

SEO, or search engine optimization, is just one of the key factors that play into how much traffic your website will bring in. Over the past decade, SEO has seen significant changes. Strategies that were once useful have been proven to actually hurt your businesses rankings. Long gone are the days of keyword stuffing and high quantity contents. We have entered into a new era of mobile, voice, and quality content.

With the new year approaching, here are four ways to boost your business with SEO in 2019.

Quality Content

Just a few years ago, Google would reward websites with a high ranking that featured how many times you used a specific keyword. Google still uses your pages title tag, URL, description tag, and H1 tag to determine the content on a page. But in order to rank on the top page, Google has shifted their focus to context.

RankBrain is Googles machines learning system that helps them rank their search results. Essentially, RankBrain measures how users interact with these results. How long someone spends on your page, and the percentage of people that click on your result are the two main factors that RankBrain is focused on.

By having high-quality content that engages users to click on your link and stay on your site, your business will be a step above your competition.

Almost everyone has a smartphone in their pockets these days, and it makes sense that 60% of all Google searches are from a mobile device. In March of 2018, Google started rolling out their mobile-first indexing. Meaning, they now use the mobile version of your site to rank your website, instead of your desktop version.

Optimizing for the mobile-first indexing can be boiled down to three simple steps.

Making sure your content is consistent across desktop and mobile.

Having a responsive design, instead of a “mobile” version of your site.

Making your site works great on mobile devices.

Following these three tips is an excellent way to make sure users find the content they need in order to make a purchasing decision.

Voice Search

With Alexa, Siri, Cortana, and Google Home, searching for things on the internet is not just about typing into a search bar anymore. Google stated that 41% of adults and 55% of teens use voice search more than once per day. With 20% of all mobile searches coming from voice searches, it is important to optimize your website for this expanding trend.

Voice searches are far different from the standard text-based search. Most come in the form of questions. Your website needs to use a conversational tone and more natural language. One of the best ways to do this is adding an FAQ page to your site.

Providing users with the most common questions your business gets, is an excellent way to add value to your site, and stay ahead of the curve in voice search.

When a friend tells you about a new restaurant you should try or where they last got their tires changed, they give that business some credibility because you know that it is legitimate. Google does the same thing with link-building.

Having your website featured on other websites is an excellent way to build your reputation with Google. The key is making sure these are credible websites and not spammy tactics. You should be establishing relationships within your niche, rather than trying to be on as many sites as possible.

A simple way to increase your backlinks is to have your website featured on as many location sites, such as Google My Business, Yelp, Waze, and YellowPages.
